Why use floor marking?

Floor marking is omnipresent in our daily life. We see it every day, whether on the roads, parking lots, shops or even in businesses. Ground marking is above all visual information that helps organize and secure spaces to better guide our movements and naturally manage the flow of people and vehicles.
SESA SYSTEMS' range of ground markings, security and signage help mark out, organize and identify your site. Being able to identify risks helps prevent them. Indeed, factories, production workshops, warehouses and logistics platforms are work environments at risk, where pedestrians, machines and machinery coexist. By strictly using floor marking, you ensure a functional and secure environment and optimal working conditions for your employees. Signage on the ground therefore helps solve a major issue and that is safety.
Floor marking makes it possible to meet LEAN Management and allows better management and productivity of your industrial site : for example, it makes it possible to delimit areas and locations in your warehouses, in particular to avoid not encumber them. We offer different types of markings such as warning tape, shapes and pictograms. This range also makes it possible to indicate safety instructions and prohibitions to improve the safety and working conditions of operators and to perpetuate the 5S approach within your organization.

What are the areas of your logistics platform to be delimited?

There are many people and vehicles moving through a warehouse, and you are not immune to a forklift accident or a collision between two materials handling equipment. In order to strengthen the security of your organization, you will need to put in place clear, consistent and intuitive warehouse floor marking.

  • Pedestrian paths: delimit them correctly so that your employees can walk in the areas dedicated for this purpose.
  • The traffic lanes for handling equipment: these must be marked with continuous visible bands. For this, adhesive floor marking tapes can come in handy.
  • Risk areas such as those reserved for the storage of hazardous materials: they can be signposted by yellow or red ground marking strips placed on the ground in order to limit access to operators.

How to choose your industrial floor marking?

At SESA SYSTEMS, we recommend the use of adhesive floor markings to the detriment of floor marking paint for the interior coating of your production sites. This has several advantages: the markup is fast and unlike painting, the installation of industrial adhesive tapes does not require drying time. Also, if you reorganize your work environment, it is easier to remove and modify your floor marking. Adhesive floor tapes are therefore a good alternative and have an attractive value for money!
The lifespan of these products depends on the type of ground that you wish to identify and on the frequency of passage of the operators and the machines on the markings on the ground. Different adhesive qualities meet the requirements of your workshops to guarantee the best possible hold of your markings:

  • Standard: for smooth or new ground with little passage on the marking.
  • Medium: for smooth floors, new or renovated floors, with light to moderate passage of trolleys and pedestrians.
  • Reinforced: for smooth floors, new, renovated or old floors, messy floors, moderate to intensive use, good wear resistance.
  • Extra: ideal quality for porous, irregular, old, oily soils, intensive use, very good resistance to wear.

To ensure optimal floor marking within your site, our range also contains some adhesive tapes and pictograms specially dedicated to outdoor floor marking.

What colors should you use for your warehouse floor marking?

In order to comply with the regulations imposed by activity, you should use our reference tool: the RAL color chart. The colors mentioned below are used to mark our industrial floors, and are therefore included here as an example. Note that you will have to take into account the color of your floor covering of your choice:

  • Red (3020): danger or prohibition.
  • Orange (2004): chemical storage.
  • Yellow (1018): warning or danger.
  • Green (6024): information, direction or evacuation.
  • Blue (5017): obligation or protection.
  • White (9016): traffic lanes and storage areas.
  • Black (9017): erasing of the lines present on the asphalt.

A complete range of floor markings to adapt to your environment

  • Floor marking tapes: Adhesive tapes for industrial marking are used to fit out workshops and warehouses. The objective is to allocate a place on the ground for each moving element and to keep enough space to allow operators and vehicles to circulate without danger. To delimit these spaces, we offer different types of adhesive tapes, with different strengths and available in several colors.
  • Floor marking with adhesive forms: To define a precise location, adhesive pads or adhesive corners can also be used. Each of these forms makes it possible to adapt well to different furnitures, tools and objects found in the industrial environment. As resistant and effective as adhesive rollers, these adhesive shapes allow you to organize your workspace more concretely. For example, using 4 adhesive tees, create a location for a pallet.
  • Identification of the floor marking with adhesive storage pictograms: The yellow adhesive storage pictograms allow to quickly and visually identify locations and different storage areas in workshops and warehouses. The use of images makes it possible to indicate and assign an area in a concrete way. This makes it possible to follow 5S rules and to keep an orderly workspace, at low cost. They are complementary with other marking solutions.
  • Clear identification of traffic areas: For vehicles such as trolleys and for areas where pedestrians move, we offer various pictograms adapted to guarantee the cohabitation and safety of everyone within the plant such as adhesive footprints, arrows or pedestrian crossing strips. This range is used to inform and guide users to avoid collisions and incidents.
  • Floor marking with adhesive pictograms obligations, prohibitions and caution: To improve and secure an industrial environment, signaling pictograms contain specific colors such as blue, red or even yellow, making it possible to ensure industrial safety.

Our recommendations for the implementation of effective floor marking

  • Define an intuitive, consistent and non-redundant marking
  • Separate pedestrian and trolley flows
  • Define the directions of traffic
  • Secure crossings
  • Report dangers
  • Promote compliance with non-storage areas (RIA and emergency exits)

How to put your adhesive on the floor for an immediate result?

It is very easy to install our adhesive floor markings. However, we recommend that you follow a few guidelines and proceed in stages for better results and better adhesion strength over the long term.

1st step: prepare the surface.
To begin with, the surface should be cleaned of all dust, grease, oil and solvent: The floor should be bare and clean. Cleaning products based on Chlorine and lemon should be avoided. To do this, we can recommend you the degreasing cleaning product from our range. Before proceeding to the next step, the ground must be completely dry. It is recommended to allow the surface to dry completely (approximately 30 min) before applying the adhesives to the floor. The ideal installation temperature is between 18 °C and 25 °C for an optimal application of your industrial marking on the ground.

2nd step: laying the adhesive on the floor.
For the application of your marking rollers, remove a few centimeters of the protective tape on one end: using a cutter, draw a light line on the protective film then slightly bend the adhesive for easy removal. Then place the tape or adhesive pictogram on the desired location before applying firmly. Continue the installation by applying the rest of the adhesive to the floor as you go: exerting pressure with one hand, continue to remove the protective strip with the other hand. In order to eliminate any air bubbles under the adhesive, we recommend rolling something heavy on your path, such as a forklift, for a perfect adhesion to the ground.

Some things to take note off:
Be careful not to superimpose several markings, otherwise the adhesion to the ground will not be effective and the adhesive will not hold over time. If there are cracks or holes in the floor, air can get under the adhesive which can reduce the effectiveness and life of the product. In the presence of an intense back and forth movement of forklifts, pallets or any other blunt object that can be pulled or pushed on the floors, we recommend the use of SESA SYSTEMS adhesive pads, corners, tees or borders.
